Due to the advanced age of forensic physicians in Taiwan, it is urgent for more young doctors to participate in forensic pathology. According to the current statistics on the age of forensic physicians in the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IFM), the average age is about 62 years old, and nearly 80% of them are over 60 years old. Besides, the full-time forensic physician in the IFM will retire at the age of four years later. Hence, young forensic doctors must pass on their talents to improve the quality and efficiency of forensic anatomy.

On September 27, 2022, the annual Senior Professional and Technical Examinations Regulations for Forensic Medical Examiner was released. A total of 6 candidates were admitted, of which 5 were qualified as a pathologist. They will become the new force of forensic physicians, which not only reduce the average age of forensic physicians from 62 to 56, but also reduce the average number of anatomies of each forensic physician, and even improve the quality of forensic anatomy identification.

Under the leadership of Minister Tsai, we solved the problem of the forensic talent gap that had plagued us for many years, established a forensic education system that was in line with international standards, and opened a new page of forensic identification in Taiwan.
